9. Sew a blue square to the end of a light 2˝ × 11˝ strip and a dark 2˝ × 11˝ strip. Press the seams away from the blue square.

10. Sew the light unit from Step 9 to the light side of the block and the dark unit to the dark side of the block. Press the seams toward the strip just added. The block should measure 12½˝ × 12½˝. Repeat the steps to make 48 blocks.

Quilt Assembly

1. Arrange the blocks in 8 rows of 6 blocks each, referring to the quilt assembly diagram.

2. Sew the blocks into rows. Press the seams in each row in alternating directions.

3. Sew the rows together and press the seams open.

4. Layer the quilt top, batting, and backing. Baste, quilt as desired, and bind. Refer to Quilt Finishing for additional details.

Change It Up

For queen size, make 16 additional blocks and add a block to the left and right sides of each row.
